Last time I had a machine with a Radeon card it was still ATI, and it wasn’t even one of the later ones. It was a Radeon 9000 from like 2002 or 3

Which card did you get? Their range has some pretty serious bang for the buck units now and I’ve got a RX 5700 XT in my desktop and it does quite well at 1440p gaming.

Yeah that card’s about three times what my budget was . I found a good deal on an RX580 8GB, which isn’t very new but it’s a solid upgrade from my old 1050ti and cost the same after a promotional credit amazon was running.

I’ve got a 1070 in main machine and a 5500XT in my HTPC. Pretty sure that 1070 is getting replaced with a new card this Fall, but I want to see the new offerings from both companies before deciding which way to go.
In other video card related news I finally managed to pry out my 1070 to install new RAM, and now I have many RAM:
Though it looks like the BIOS decided to reset to JEDEC timings instead of XMP, so I need to go find a USB keyboard so I can fix that.

Is there currently a spike in GPU prices? Because I opened eBay to look at used ones and it went something like this :
I swear it wasn’t that bad when I was looking at them last year. It’s hard to find an 8GB card under $200, even whe n looking at models that are a few years old.

The RX580 is quite a performer for how little it costs. They’re not power efficient but they do pretty well in performance.

I have about 300 watts of wiggle room in my power supply so I’m good
Amazon had one for $170 with a $30 credit if I added a Mastercard to my account, so yeah. A brand new 8GB card for $130.

Yes, Corona shrunk supply both with people buying things to game on and slowdowns in manufacturing.

I actually switched from a long line of AMD cards (8500LE, 9200, 4850, 6870, R9 290) to an RTX 2060 this time round. The new mid-high RX wasn’t available at the time I bought mine, and I was going for a power density build which the 2060 worked out.

Honestly I don’t follow ebay prices much, but it doesn’t look too terrible to me right now.
The 8GB RX570 is a strong value at $140: https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-570-rx-570-8gt-oc/p/N82E16814137521?&quicklink=true
And a 5500XT for $180 doesn’t seem terrible either:

I’m not really sure where prices for 5700s should be or where nvidia is these days, but these low-midrange AMD cards seem in line where things have been.

You ’ll be folding with that, right?

I got a 5700XT and the performance is shocking. I genuinely can’t believe I get away with 4k60 with above average settings in No Man’s Sky. My only real gripe is the card doesn’t talk to TVs all that well, so unfortunately I’m likely to go with nVidia next go round.

I found this list. My gtx 960 is showing its age as its nowhere near what you guys are posting in msfs.
Is the 1070 a worthwhile jump? I have a 600w power supply

I went to get a pair of shoes didnt see a price, but the other around them were $ 60-90. tried on a pair, probably the most comfortable I’ve ever worn. get to the register, “ that will be 284 dollars sir” . “oh shit, i’m sorry for wasting your time ”
![]() 08/26/2020 at 17:48 |

No, but they’re not much cheaper than new ones unless you buy a super old one with insane TDP

It would be a nice boost over a 960, 2-3 times as fast depending on application:
https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/2547?vs=2528
Of course the 1070 is a four year old card, so it’s possible you’d do better with a newer midrange card (The 570 listed above would probably be ~ 20% slower than a 1070, while the 5500 would be ~10% slower) .

Thank you. Its been a while since I went shopping replacement components. When I was ga ming a lot, I lost one in an electrical storm and another to being dropped and then turned on and frying itself. Last time I was upgrading was 2007 ish. Seems like there are so many more models and sub- models out now than back then.
